Coldplay grup band asal Inggris ini beranggotakan Chris Martin (vokal, gitar, piano), Guy Berryman (bass), Jonny Buckland (lead guitar) dan Will Champion (drums).
Band ini dibentuk pada tahun 1998 di London, Inggris. Coldplay mulai dikenal sejak single mereka Yellow meledak di tahun 2000, diikuti oleh kesuksesan album perdana mereka PARACHUTES. Album ini meraih Best Alternative Music Album pada Grammy Awards tahun 2002.
Pada Agustus 2002, Coldplay mengeluarkan album kedua mereka, A RUSH OF BLOOD TO THE HEAD. Album ini menuai sukses besar, dengan In My Place, The Scientist, dan Clocks. Album ini memenangkan 2 kategori dalam Grammy Awards tahun 2003 yaitu Best Alternative Music Album dan Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, juga meraih Record of the Year untuk “Clocks” pada Grammy Awards tahun 2004.
Album ketiga Coldplay, X&Y, diluncurkan tanggal 6 juni 2005. Album ini menjadi best-selling album of 2005 dengan total penjualan 8,3 juta di seluruh dunia. Hit-hit dalam album ini antara lain Speed of Sound, Fix You dan Talk. Pada Februari 2006, Coldplay meraih penghargaan untuk Best Album and Best Single pada BRIT Awards.
Sejak Desember 2006, Coldplay sibuk menyiapkan album keempat mereka yang diproduseri oleh Brian Eno dan diharapkan dapat diluncurkan awal 2008.
Coldplay merupakan band yang peduli pada permasalahan sosial dan politik, seperti Oxfam’s Make Trade Fair campaign dan Amnesty International. Band ini juga tampil dalam berbagai acara kemanusiaan seperti Band Aid 20, Live 8 dan the Teenage Cancer Trust.
